Immigration
In the northern hemisphere, along the Atlantic coast, the bird moves from south to north in spring. Very shy, the bird likes to take refuge in the green groves of these northern regions. The male bird is easily recognisable with its black coat and yellow beak. The female bird has duller plumage and a more delicate pigment contrast.
Local interaction
By interacting with their new local environment, the pair take over a small territory around a dark, shady biotope. And, if winter temperatures are mild, it's not unusual for these two birds to stop migrating.
Technical skills
Ornithologists attribute remarkable technical skills and resilience to blackbirds. Their nests are perfectly round, in the shape of an open cup, and are consolidated by a cement made on the spot. This insectivorous bird has few predators. It defends itself mainly by sounding the alarm with its repeated, fairly deafening call.
Analogy
This behaviour is analogous to the life of the founder of merle-tech: he came from New Aquitaine and settled in North Rhine-Westphalia. He started a family there, interacted locally, preserves remarkable technical skills and alerts his community to danger.
The names
‘Amsel & Merle’ is the name of a small publishing house that Eric set up with his daughter.
‘Merle & Tech’ became the name of a workshop dedicated to co-creation, design and circular economies.
Since 2023, the name has been simplified to merle-tech.
