Stefan Maas is a qualified industrial and communication designer who, following roles in Germany and abroad and a career in higher education, has been independent since 2002.

His main areas of focus are strengthening the culture of innovation within companies through design thinking and lean start-up, user experience (UX) design and industrial design.

Graduate in Industrial Design from the University of Wuppertal; postgraduate studies in System Design; employed by, amongst others, Philips Design (NL) and Ascom (CH); led a DFG-funded research project at the Department of Design, University of Wuppertal; freelance work at the Ante Institute, University of Dallas (USA); Co-founder of dmbh – Network for Design, Amsterdam/Cologne/Munich; self-employed since 2007, specialising in product and service innovation, industrial design and UX. Facilitator for Design Thinking and Lean Start-Up.

Aims to adapt technical innovation to people, rather than the other way round.

Works part-time as a ski instructor during the winter months.
